FLOP COME BACKS
After the changes in PCB top positions, there came a change of mindset as well and with the arrival of Misbah ul Haq as the Head Coach and Cheif Selector, Some of the old guns were given a green ticket to come back in the team. Misbah ul Haq eyed the coming T20I series against the Aussies and then the T20 World Cup 2020, and thus came Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad back into the T20 Side.
Both were instantly included in the playing XI considering they would have a smooth return against the weak Sri Lankan side which was coming after a tough loss of ODI series, However, Not to be! Both the players miserably failed at the big stage. Ahmed could not get into the double figures while Umar Akmal got a golden duck.
Misbah even after the loss of first T20 by a record margin said that the comeback players will be given full chance and persisted with Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad. Pakistan was again put to the chase but this time the total was not a huge one. All eyes were stuck on the two returning players Umar and Ahmed Shehzad but they repeated their performances from the first ODI and got out early and almost in the same fashion.
Umar got another golden duck breaking some unwanted records of most ducks by a batsman. whereas it was a struggling inning by Ahmed Shehzad and we never looked settled before getting out clean bowled.
THE MISSING BABAR AZAM FACTOR
Pakistan heavily relies on their ace batsmen Babar Azam to do most of the scoring in the middle order however Babar failed completely in this series without scoring any significant knock in any of the three matches. Babar Azam has a flawless T20 Record and ranks in the top ten batsmen however home conditions seemed a bit alien to him as he was unable to score a single 50 in the three matches.
LACK OF POWER HITTERS AND INTENT
Being ranked Number 1 in T20s Pakistan did went a little experimental or a little too experimental about the selection and order of bating. It was total chaos where every match batting order was shuffled, Middle order was shuffled, Babar Azam was not played at number 3 position instead Umar Akmal was played at 3rd position. The youngest bowler to achieve hat tick was not played in the next game. instead new Usman Shenwari was played. Iftikhar was included than excluded for the second match and then included again. Haris Sohail after a successful ODI series was not playing right away in the T20s he came in when the series was done and dusted.
Pakistan did so many Failed experiments that its hard to keep a record of those changes, however, the Sri Lankan team played the best cricket they could and got the results and closed the series in a stylish way.
This was the first Ever Whitewash to Pakistan by a Sri Lankan team.
